We experienced a sunny warm windless, late Winters morning,
while planting more trees and shrubs in the
area. We hope to have these plants established before the summer dry
weather is with us. The Pond and pathway are slowly being accepted by
local dog walkers and joggers. Favourable positve comment has been
received, stating the area is looking better with less litter about.
Some of the local shop workers have been observed sitting near the Pond, during their
lunch break.
The Cape Bird Club has agreed to sponsor a maintenance program for the
area, with an incentive bonus for our local worker. More will be announced
about this later.

A view North along the pathway, opposite the Lakeside Fire Station.

Una Hartley the organiser,
delegator and worker.

John Martheze, Elzette Krynauw, Brian Campbell, Els Dorratt, Pat
Coles
planting some of the approxiamately 100 shrubs and trees selected
for the area.
The species are selected from the Nature
Conservation Management Plan for the area.

Lisa Campbell, Brian Campbell, Elzette (Zandvlei Nature Conservation
Officer) and Pat Coles planting along the bank of the 'new' Pond excavated
recently. The idea behind the Pond is that Una Hartley felt that when
travelling along the Main Road and one looks across the vast Reedbeds
there is no association with Zandvlei. Now one sees an exposed water
surface and it is hoped people will go and investigate Zandvlei. While we
were planting Malachite Kingfishers, Fiscal Shrikes, Yellowbilled Ducks,
Cape Shovellers visited the Pond. Once the pond has settled, it will
attract more species of birds, insects and animals.

Vincent and Ina Marincowitz also hard at work.

We enjoyed a cup of tea while reflecting on the work
completed.
