Completed

Meetings have to be attended (research, learn and become informed), reports and documents are read and discussed (formulate and understand the requirements), then the report from Zandvlei Trust has to be compiled and submitted within the time frame required.

Many reports have been written from the Zandvlei Trust. This is a reason we have built a credability and are often consulted when any developments are about to be planned near Zandvlei, its rivers/canals and in its Catchment.

Monitoring and being 'Watchdogs' also Lobbying

There are numerous other letters which have to be written, lobbying different departments of the City of Cape Town about different aspects of Zandvlei ie:

  • monitoring of the waterways and corridors for dumping, water extraction, alien (exotic) vegetation growing in waterways
  • litter removal from canals and the Zandvlei periphery, streets etc
  • sewerage and other spills into rivers, canals and gutters
  • cleaning gutters to prevent silt entering Zandvlei via stormwater drains.
  • the build up of fresh waterweed in the canals, wetlands and the Zandvlei.
  • levels and the quality of the water, salinity, freshness etc.
  • Environmental Education at the Nature Reserve and helping to equip the facility.
  • Assisting the Nature Reserve staff when additional help is required for various projects.

We need more members to help read reports, watch the press for proposed developments and become knowledgable about the above procedures and processes.
