'River Day' launching the Westlake Walkway and Pond
2nd March 2002

About 50 members and friends attended. Vincent Marincowitz opened proceedings by introducing speakers Councillor Qually, Una Hartley and Clifford Dorse. The speakers all congratulated Una Hartley and Zandvlei Trust for her initiative on beautifing the roadside in Lakeside, Main Road with flowering indigenous plants and groundcovers. Also for promoting and influencing the City of Cape Town to implement the pathway and the pond. The Cape Bird Club has sponsored a maintenance programme for the area with a donation of money.  It is gladdening to see more and more people enjoying the pathway alongside the pond, stopping to see the birds, insects, frogs and fish.
