Bladder Grasshopper (Bullacris intermedia) Medium size body 45mm. Males are green with brown and yellow bar along the metathorax. Males produce a loud frog like groan in the early morning which can carry for 2km. They are territorial.  new 11/12/2010

Rock Grasshopper (Conistica saucia) Medium to large with brilliant red hind wings seen in flight.

Blue-wing (Sphingonotus scabriculus) Medium size 25 - 35mm body length. Wings dark blue in flight. Found in open stony ground with sparse vegetation.

Common Stick Grasshopper (Acrida acuminata) feeds on grass a variety of grasses. Large - body length about 50 - 60mm.

Common Stick Grasshopper (Acrida acuminata)

Yellow wings (Oedaleus nigrofasciatus) feed on short grasses in open sandy soil areas. Small 20mm body length.

Koppie Foam Grasshopper (Dictyophorus spumans) feeds on milkweeds and stores cardiac glycosides as a defence deterant. It is flightless, and large about 100mm in length.
