Stick Insects

Indian or Laboratory Stick Insect (Carausius morsus) body about 75mm long, robust green or yellow with bright red flash on inner surface of front legs. Feeds on numerous types of plants along the Cape Penninsula. Eggs take 4 -6 months to hatch and nymphs take 6 months to reach maturity.

Cape Stick Insect (Phalces tuberculatus) Long and slender brown in colour with small tubercles on the body surface. Only named in 2000.
