Background Information

Frank Wygold has a life interest in Natural History, extending back to his childhood. He graduated as a physicist and later as both a mechanical and electrical engineer.

He started and headed the organisation – Bioprobe which later became SERO (Scientifc Environmental Research Organisation) in Britain during the 1960's. This organisation had mobile field reasearch laboritories, staffed and run as self contained units.

Another project of a student, a pig scull.

Franks passion has always been education and job creation. He has sourced and collected the equipment over many years and now offers this facility to all scholars and adults interested in Natural History. Frank became interested in the Paarden Eiland Wetlands in 1984, when he first visited it and saw the potential to set up a field study centre, as the site offers diverse habitats in a small area.

A juvenile Cape Cobra.

He has perservered to find a suitable building near to the Paarden Eiland Wetlands to house all the equipment. He offers varied and stimulating courses aimed at Young Naturalist's. They can spend weekends collecting samples and working in the laboratory.

This snake skeleton project was also completed by a student.

Frank needs funding, to sponsor children from the City of Cape Town to be able to attend and learn more about the natural environment. Paying for the transport is always the largest cost item.
