Zandvlei Trust
Ground
photographs.
These pictures were supplied by Dave and Cynthia Privett.
Dave and Cynthia found the old pictures in the
Reference Library in Cape Town dating back to the 1890s.. They decided to take
"new" photographs from the approximate position of the original
pictures, 100 years later.
1890's picture. Notice how close the Zandvlei main water body is to railway
line on the left hand side.
1990's picture. The left hand side has
been reclaimed by about 20 – 30 meters. The water body at Rutter Road is
considerably smaller as well. Electric
overhead cables power the suburban trains now.

pavilion.

1990's picture. The concrete steps below the civic hall on the right, at the
bottom of the picture.
