Zandvlei Trust Biodiversity Network talk – 10/12/2008. |
|
Clifford Dorse came to give the Exco and some interested members a talk on the City of Cape Town, Biodiversity Network progress. This was the last meeting of the year with an informal reportback by some of the Task Team leaders. The implementing of the SANBI (South African National Biodiversity Institute) national requirement to meet the targets of the fynbos botanical biodiversity. The information is scary of how little survives in the Metropole and what is required to just conserve the national requirement. Most of the these soil types and plant types are unique to the planet. They only occur in the western Cape. The Cape Dune Strandveld type is under huge pressure for development for housing on the Cape Flats bordering False Bay.
