Celebrating World Wetlands Week at Zandvlei – 28/01/2008.

On a hot windy morning, the Metrorail Edutrain brought 100 boys and girls from Lwandle Primary School (Khayelitsha) to Zandvlei Nature Reserve to learn about wetlands. They walked from Steenberg station 200 meters from the western gate.

Zandvlei Trust members assisted the staff of the Nature Reserve in helping to teach the children about the importance of wetlands. The children were split into smaller groups so they could hear in the strong wind.

The children were shown chameleons, terrapins, snakes and leopard toads in the education centre. These are always a winner, along with the explanation of why it is important to look after these creatures in the wetland habitats.
