Park Island – Arbour Day – 22nd June 2002

Another successful day planting Strandveld trees and shrubs. Many families and individuals came along and bought plants, to enhance the 'management plan'. Part of the plan is to re–habitate indigenous vegetation on the island.
This is a long term plan managed by Clifford Dorse (SPA – Nature Conservation and the Friends of Park Island/Zandvlei Trust).
What this demonstrates is that the local community has taken ownership of this project by putting in time, effort and spending money to beautify public open space in their area.
See the map, that indicates the different vegetation areas and types. Below are some of the people who came along.

Alec Celliers finished planting and watering before most people arrived.

A 'family tree planting', with help from the third generation.
