GREATER Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve
The Environmental Education Centre (EEC) – 2007 8. November – Steenberg Primary School awarded Sharon McCallum this certificate of appreciation for the work she does with the children.
7. October – Mark Arendse and Sharon McCallum walked 16 learners and their teacher, Glenda Samuels, from Steenberg Primary Grade 6 up Muizenberg Mountain as part of an environmental education programme dealing with the catchment area.
Going up Farmer Pecks Valley Muizenberg down below. It was the first time up the mountain for some of the children and opened a new world for them. 6. September – The long awaited canoes have finally arrived. The racks have been made and installed.
5. July – A presentation to the Environmental Centre.
Cassy Sheasby, Mark Arendse and Vic de Valdorf On behalf of a client of his who has
sponsered the Enviromental Education Centre over the past two years, This will enable Mark to give presentations at schools and at the Environmental Centre, an important tool to further Evironmental Education at Zandvlei. 4. May – An adventure to Australia Island with the Zerilda Primary School Environmental Club.
3. April – Mark reports "A total of 1856 children have visited the Centre so far this year".
The Metrorail Edutrain passing the Reserve coming into Steenberg Station. 2. January – The World Wetlands Week celebrated at Zandvlei. Monday 30th January to 2nd February, starting with
Kraaifontein African Methodist Episcopal, grade 6 & 7 pupils were
brought by the Metrorail Edutrain to Steenberg Station. The Edutrain is a 3 carriage purpose built classroom on rail. Other schools to visit during the week were; Zandvlei Trust members assisted on some days as part of the celebration of World Wetlands Day. 1. December 2006 - Annual school children visitors to the EECentre. A total of 1659 children visted the Environmental Centre this year. See what happened at the Centre in 2006.
