 The Environmental Education Centre (EEC) – 2008

4. June – The EE program continues to do well. 2400 learners have visited the reserve since January. Mark is taking Steenberg up Lions Head on 13/06/2008.


3. April – Christian Davids – Moravian Primary School visit on 24th April. On a warm sunny autumn day children from the nearby school visited the Reserve to learn all about the natural environment.

2. March – Muizenberg Community Festival on 29th March. GZENR shared stand with Zandvlei Trust– Enviro Education Task Team.
The theme was about the importance of the estuary and to learn more about it. The interactive layout with games was fun, learning about Leopard Toads, Dune molerats and fish. There was also a live display of amphibians, reptiles and fish.

1. January – February – The World Wetlands Week celebrated at Zandvlei, 
Monday 28th January to 7th February.

The Metrorail Edutrain passing the Reserve coming into Steenberg Station.

Starting with Lwandle Primary School – Khayelitsha, 100 pupils were brought by Themba the Metrorail Edutrain to Steenberg Station. The Edutrain is a 3 carriage purpose built classroom on rail.
The Greater Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve is the only Nature Reserve, within walking distance from a railway station in the City Metropole. This makes it possible for many children to visit and learn about this important natural area.
Zandvlei Trust members assisted on some days as part of the celebration of  World Wetlands Day.
