Question and answer time. Mark reports "This year only two schools attend the Wetlands programme at Zandvlei Nature Reserve. They were from St. Paul’s Primary and St. Augustine Primary in Cape Town. This is the first year that only 40% of learners, compared to previous years, have attended the Wetlands programme at the Reserve brought by the Edu-Train staff. In the Reserve, we did the welcome and the code of conduct, then the learners
were divided into smaller groups and were each given a bird chart. We gave them information about plant and animal species,
and explained the difference between an estuary and wetland. This first part of
the outing takes about an hour. The second half has the groups rotated between a PowerPoint presentation, which they read with me and I explain or give them an example of what they have read. In the other class it is hands on, in which they see live animals, pollution that would affect the ecosystem and also what they can do to help save a wetland. After the activities they were taken back to the station and we waited until the train departed. I wish to thank the following who helped make the programme a success;
The Wetlands Programme continues at the local schools in the area".
