World Wetlands Week 2010 at Zandvlei

From the 1st Feb to 5th February the Metrorail Edutrain will bring children to the Steenberg railway station which is is 100 meters from the Reserve. About 100 children will arrive each day.

A Cape Dwarf Chameleon.

On Friday the Walmer Street Primary School from Cape Town
came to the Reserve.

An early March Lily was in full bloom.                  Even a young Angulate tortoise came to say hullo.

"The Kingfisher " waterweed harvester was busy in the background,
cutting the weed in the vlei.

Corinna (the volunteer student from Germany) bringing the children
to the Reserve from the Steenberg railway station. 

"We always get the show offs dont we?"

The Peoples Post community newspaper was there to cover the activities
of World Wetlands Week at Zandvlei.

Corinna telling all how Darters (fish eating birds) have to dry their feathers,
in the sun and wind when they sit on a tree brach. They have no oil 
glands to keep the feathers waterproof and dry when they swim under water.

Even the teachers learnt something new about birds at the estuary.
