These children from Steenberg Primary School enjoying an afternoon at the Zandvlei Estuary mouth. They are looking to see what the sea in False Bay has washed up.

They found a Gannet. Erika and Elzette explained what had probably happened to the Gannet and why it was washed up onto the beach.

Elzette showing the children some Sea Bamboo (Kelp) which is an important component of our shores. It offers shelter, it disperses the wave action and it is a food source for many small creatures in the sea. It is a very good soil fertilzer as well.

The remains of a  Rock Sucker fish was also found. This fish eats limpets on rocky outcrops in the sea.

All these glass bottles were collected from the beach to be deposited in the recycling "igloos".
