Fishing for exotic species



These fishermen are assisting by trying to catch the exotic fish, barbel (catfish) in Zandvlei. They are helping to research what the barbel are eating and have recently found unknown small fledglings (small birds) in their stomachs. It is suspected that the threatened Western Leopard Toads are eaten as well.
They were using 10 fishing rods with various baits on the lines.
The Leopard Toad is the symbol of the Zandvlei Nature Reserve.
