Chameleon relocation from Bokmakierie Park – 18 Feb 2010.

This exercise was to relocate the chameleons as part of the management plan for Bokmakierie Park. A section of it will be burnt to help revitalise the senessent plant populations. This is a management intervention as the natural fire process has not happened in many years, due many to the proximity of the residential properties.

Some of the enthusiastic group who came to help, listening to Cassy introduce what is to happen.
She delegated the task to Marisa to lead.

Marisa found one very quickly and is helping others to see what to look for.

A number of adults and juveniles were found. After listing they were put into bags (to stop them fighting each other) and relocated nearby, so that they may return to the area after the fire.

All shapes sizes and colours were found, these are just some as examples.

This young male being released.                                This youngster did not like being woken up.

This nocturnal cricket with its exceptionally long feelers was found up in a shrub.

The Nature Reserve staff waiting for the last scouts to bring in the remaining chameleons. So they could go home after a long day at the office.
