"Freecycle Cape Town was established at the end of 2004 to connect Captonians who are throwing away things they no longer want with others who need them. The idea is to prolong the lifecycle of everyday things and to stop them from filling up dumping sites". says Andreas Spath.

No item is too big or too small to be put on offer, but everything has to be 100% free - no swapping, bartering, selling and no strings attached. It's giving without expectation and receiving without obligation in an effort to simultaneously promote mutual aid and an appreciation for our fragile environment.

Freecycle Cape Town, an online community with more than 600 members, is part of the worldwide Freecycle Network, a grassroots non-profit organisation with over 2 million members in more than 3000 towns and cities around the globe.
