Invasive Alien Plant Workshop  – 29th November 2003

About 10 members attended the Stiaan Marais presentation on Invasive Alien Plants. He is from Ukuvuku with a background in commercial forestery. He gave us a presentation slide show and demonstrated the various herbicides for the different leaf types and how they should be best applied.
He indicated that the Ukuvuku project sees itself as a 25 year operation to control the invasive plants in the southern Cape. He explained that the complete eradication of the "invasives" is not possible, but the control of the known areas and the seed beds is viable, as long as regular follow up work is maintained.

He explained how the herbicide should be applied to the stump.

After the presentation at the Community Hall in Uitsig, Marina da Gama, we went to Wildwood Island for a hands on demonstration. Ludine and Ryan supplied the eats and drinks as the sun was sinking behind the Mountains.
