Posthuys 1673 – Muizenberg

The signboard outside Posthuys.

This is a view from the Main Road in Muizenberg. Posthuys is regarded as the oldest residential building in South Africa, built in 1673. The building was changed over the years. It has been restored back to its original structure and now serves as a museum.
The Muizenberg Historical Conservation Society is involved in the management of this museum. They have exciting plans to restore the land site, of the Battle of Muizenberg.

This is a print of a painting, of the Battle of Muizenberg on 7th August 1795.

This is part of the display in Posthuys detailing information about and leading up to the Battle of Muizenberg.
One needs to visit this interesting museum with some time to spare as it has some very interesting paintings, photographs and information to read.

This is a photo of a painting in the early 1900's. Compare the view of the beach development and see the mouth of Zandvlei in the distance, with that of today!
