Zandvlei Trust
Winter School

Saturday, 23rd June 2001.

Brian Voster (Expert on Snakes, Raptors, Falconry) introduced us to 3 of his birds; a Laner Falcon, a Bengal Owl and a Harris Hawk.
He descibed what a discipled and committed life style a 'falconer' leads, to maintain his birds and keep the rapport intact. The focus and attention to detail while handling the birds was also emphasised. We all appreciated the oppotunity of being able to see these magnificent birds at such a close encounter. Brian also elaborated on the different characters and personalities of the birds, which was very interesting.

For those who attended a new understanding about these birds of prey was learnt.
Brian very importantly said if we wish to continue seeing these birds in the wild, we have to make sure that their habitat is conserved, as habitat destruction is their greatest threat.
