Zandvlei Trust

WALK and RIDEABOUT

Sunday,  24th June 2001.

On Sunday about 60 members and friends met at the Westlake Pond to hear Clifford Dorse tell us the story about it.

Then we moved on to the Mouth of Zandvlei at Muizenberg, Royal Road Bridge to see what all the sand removal was about.
As Clifford explained, the prawn beds will expand into the new excavated area and increase the viablity of the Estuary. After 2 weeks signs are there that the prawns are moving in.
Student Conservation Officer  Elzette Krynauw will be studying the prawn beds as a project this year. So keep a watch, we will publish her project as it progresses.

Following on, we then drove to Park Island, Marina da Gama, to see and hear about the reconnection of the canals. A new footpath and bridges are planned to link the islets.

Some information on the developments and progress on Park Island. Read the 'Friends of Park Island'  notice board when next you visit.

Everyone enjoyed the outing, plenty of questions were asked.
It was very encouraging to see so many Zandvlei Trust members and friends,  updating themselves with the developments around Zandvlei.
